This year’s Summer Cruise has been built around the destinations that members suggested following the last Cruiser AGM. Namely the Rivers Orwell and Stour and the Walton Backwaters.

Summary
• Saturday 23 – Sail to Titchmarsh Marina Walton Backwaters
• Sunday 24 – Day at Walton/Titchmarsh
• Monday 25 – Sail Titchmarsh to Ipswich
• Tuesday 26 – Day at Ipswich
• Wednesday 27 – Sail to Harwich or Shotley (weather dependent)
• Thursday 28 – Explore River Stour, overnight Suffolk Yacht Harbour
• Friday 29 – Day in Suffolk Yacht Harbour or return to Crouch
• Saturday 30 Return to the Crouch; URYC or Burnham Marina
• Sunday 31 – URYC

The itinerary assumes a speed over the ground of 5 knots being sailing speed plus at least 1 knot of tide. There are start times for boats under 30ft and those over, so ‘the fleet’ will be in sight of one another for most of the longer sails.
If winds prove adverse on the Summer Cruise, or too strong for comfortable sailing, there is significant flexibility built into the itinerary to avoid long ‘slogs’ to windward. As it’s during school holidays the itinerary is family friendly.
That’s why bits can be missed out entirely for those who decide not to sail on the first weekend for example, or for anyone who needs to get back early. These are asterisked as contingency days within the itinerary.
