Up River Yacht Club Hullbridge invites families to try sailing for free

On the 13th of May not-for-profit Up River Yacht Club are inviting people from across the Echo distribution area to try sailing for free. A small army of volunteer club members will be supporting this event which is part of a national initiative called ‘Push The Boat Out’.

 “We expect well over 100 visitors to get afloat for free and experience sailing in our fleet of safe modern sailing dinghies” said Ian Dawson Commodore of Up River Yacht Club. “Each boat has an experienced helm to show people the ropes. Everyone is provided with a bouyancy aid and we have full safety boat coverage”
 
Push The Boat Out is part of a national promotion of the sport of sailing by the Royal Yachting Association. It also ties in with Government initiatives to through Sport England to get people active.
 
In addition to sailing, Up River Yacht Club are opening their club facilities and bar to the public. They are offering a BBQ and other onshore activities for those waiting for their sailing taster session.
 
“This is both a family and adult event declared Ian. “It’s the fourth year we have run Push The Boat Out at Up River Yacht Club and it’s always fantastic fun. There is a real buzz about the place.” 
 
The club are looking to raise their profile as ‘the best sailing club on the south bank of the River Crouch’. They also benefit from their location for this event having a large free public car park for visitors immediately adjacent to the club grounds in Pooles Lane Hullbridge. They are also next door to the Anchor Restaurant with its extensive garden that stretches down to the river. A delightful spot, especially when the sun is shining.

Push the Boat Out is an RYA initiative which was first created as part of the RYA Sail for Gold Programme which was launched in March 2011.

The 2016 event will take place over nine days, 14-22 May and will see clubs and centres across the UK holding open days and inviting those who live locally to come and have a go at sailing and windsurfing.

Push The Boat Out And Try Sailing At Up River Yacht Club

Are you looking for a new way to get outdoors and active or find something you can enjoy together with the family?

If the answer is yes, Up River Yacht Club in Hullbridge is inviting you and your family to come and try sailing for free on Saturday 13 May.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water, RYA Push the Boat Out 13 May is the perfect time to give it a go.

This nationwide event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport with open days and taster sessions taking place at sailing clubs and centres across the country.

“We’re inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing, see what the club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, you might just get hooked!” commented Ian Dawson the commodore of Up River Yacht Club.

Starting at 1pm on 13 May there will be a whole host of activities taking place both on and off the water including BBQ and club bar. Just turn up on the day and complete a simple booking form that one of the organisers near the river side entrance of the club will hand you. Alternatively, register on line and receive a booking form you can download and complete in advance. Sailing can be as physical or as relaxing as you want to make it, you can sail with others or on your own, do it competitively or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outside in the elements.
