Joining Up River Yacht Club

At Up River Yacht Club we take great pride not only in being a very well organised club, but also a very friendly and welcoming club too.

Just need an application form? Please click here

We cater for both dinghy sailors and cruiser sailors and provide a full programme of racing, cruising and fun sailing days throughout the year.

Our Cadet section offers sail training sessions from the age of 8yrs upwards.

For cruiser owners we offer tidal moorings at very reasonable annual rates, together with full launch and recovery facilities for yachts up 9 metres in length. These operations are carried out by our in house Launch and Recovery Syndicate, membership of which is available to all full sailing members for a one off payment.

Canoes and kayaks have a dedicated storage area and the club slipway allows easy access to the Upper River Crouch.

To complement our club sailing activities, our House Committee organise a varied programme of social events throughout the year as well as maintaining a very well stocked bar, which is open to members on Friday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes.

PLEASE NOTE – due to the exceptional backlog of cadet training created by Covid restrictions during 2020/21, our sailing tuition programme is still over-subscribed in 2024. Consequently, in order to be absolutely transparent to potential new members, we will be unable to guarantee sailing tuition to ALL new members during 2024. Please enquire first if your membership is solely based upon the availability of sailing training, rather than boat ownership more widely. We warmly welcome potential new members who have some experience and can sail confidently on the river unsupervised.

An apology – due to a change of policy by the Crouch Harbour Authority, from January 2022 we cannot offer any benefit to our membership through collecting CHA Harbour Dues in advance of the March payment deadline to ensure members could benefit from significant discounts previously available.

All boats, including sailing dinghies, canoes and kayaks are obliged to display a River License. Therefore, when thinking about joining Up River Yacht Club, or indeed any other club, marina etc on the River Crouch, please check out how much a River License will cost for your boat(s) by clicking on this link as this now becomes the individual responsibility of boat owners to register and pay directly to CHA.

Testimonials

My family & I visited the club on one of the ‘Push the Boat Out’ open days. Everyone was very welcoming, helpful and encouraging in mine and my son’s quest to sail. As a result, we signed up for the ‘Cadets Training Programme’. Over this past summer, we have both learnt the basics from very supportive club members, have been treated to the expertise of Peter Clancy, (a visiting RYA instructor), and have enjoyed the end of cadet season BBQ.

However, the overall highlight was being able to put into practice what we had learnt in the charity regatta. The ‘Working Party’ mornings have been both fun and rewarding, knowing that we are contributing to the ongoing success of the club. Everyone has been so warm and friendly, which has made learning to sail even better than anticipated.

“I just wanted  to email you in order to thank the whole club for the help and support given to me and my friends when we visited the club`s premises to assess and prepare my newly acquired boat , in order to sail it back home to France…

…I had anticipated courteous indifference from the club and the need to be very cautious about presuming to use club facilities. In the event I was unexpectedly drawn into an extended family of East Coast club sailing, and given a huge amount of practical help and useful advice. Were I ever to return to the South East of England I could not imagine anywhere else I would want to keep a sailing boat, just on the basis of the community spirit, let alone the pleasant setting, impressive facilities and the incredible value club membership offers.

I am a member of the Trident 24 owner`s association and will forward a heart felt recommendation, that anybody looking to keep a boat anywhere in the club`s vicinity could find no better place.

“Just to thank all involved to make this a great weekend. Kate really enjoyed it & you were all so friendly. Hope to see you all soon.

One of the best things about Up River Yacht Club is the willingness of members to help you out. A self help club attracts practical people and offers a great pool of talent and experience to draw upon. This has certainly saved me money as well as improving my sailing.
