Due to the rise and fall of the tide along the rivers and coastline of Essex, the accessibility of sailing for those with restricted mobility is limited.
At Up River Yacht Club the fairly steep slipway needed for boats to be launched on the tidal river is a significant barrier for those with mobility issues, as it can be wet and potentially very slippery. The Club has made all practical adaptations possible to the building, with an access ramp and dedicated disability friendly WC.
If you are thinking of joining Up River Yacht Club, we would encourage you to view the facilities to assess whether the Club is right for you. As an alternative, we actively promote the Hanningfield Sailability Project (HSP) as a nearby venue for people with disabilities to enjoy sailing.
HSP offer
- Launch facilities specifically designed for people with disabilities
- Five specially designed boats
- Club House
- Superb reservoir sailing
