WHERE

Come along to Up River Yacht Club this year for a great family day out. The Hullbridge Regatta has been hosted by Up River Yacht Club since at least the 1950’s. The Club is next door to the Anchor Inn at Hullbridge that has an extensive beer garden that extends down to the river side.

WHAT IS IT?

Hulbridge Regatta is like a village fete combined with the added attraction of watching boats race on the river. You can also have a look around your local yacht club and see what its like.

CHARITY

The regatta is raising funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and armed service charity Turn To Starboard. These valuable charities reflect the Yacht Club’s twin themes of safety at sea and supporting men and women who have suffered stress and trauma when on active duty.

WHO SHOULD GO?

The Regatta offers people from Hullbridge and the surrounding areas of Rochford, Rayleigh and Wickford the entertainment of watching close up dinghy racing on the river, combined with lots of on-shore activities. There is something of interest for all ages, including the duck race organised and run by our local scouts.

New for this year is a ceramics painting workshop.

Youngsters will particularly enjoy the Lego workshop, or perhaps their old favourite, the bouncy castle, will prove just as popular. Parents may prefer the tea and cakes and the arts and crafts, craft and card stalls. Though dads may find the vintage engines and cars a strong draw, provided they can be convinced to leave the exceptionally low priced club bar!

Refreshments are on sale all day including BBQ.

By special request this year we have live music.

Our friends from Southend Model Aircraft Club and the RNLI also have stands.

Lots of stands, activities and fun on the water. Just like a village fete but with boats and dinghies racing for added interest.

The Regatta is completely free to enter with free parking next door in the Ferry Lane car park.

JUST IN CASE

If you think you might be interested in sailing, our Vice Commodore will be on hand to answer your questions. Such as:

  • How much does it cost to buy a boat – its less than you think, really, you might be amazed when you find out.
  • How much are moorings – amazingly cheap; under £3 a week for any boat up to 30 ft (9m) long.
  • What do you get for a family membership of Up River Yacht Club this is £199 per year
  • How much does it cost to own a boat etc

Plus lots more. The club members give up their time to support the regatta. They are a friendly bunch, so please don’t hesitate to ask.
