Christmas Themed Fun Sail

This Christmas Themed Fun Sail is a new addition to our sailing calendar this year.

Its a joint fun sail with South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club who have run this event many years. Because Up River YC is now the centre of dinghy sailing in the upper Crouch, SWFYC Dinghy Captain Pete Hurlock is mighty keen to hold a joint event with us to fill the river with boats. Their Commodore suggested Eyott might like to join in too. So it could make for an entertaining morning on the river!

Saturday 16 December,  on the water 10.00am

  1. Wearing / displaying something Christmas themed

Christmas hats, tinsel on the mast, decorated tree on the fore deck (is that going too far?).

2. Have fun!

Everyone is invited for tea and mince pies at SWFYC

(we can shuttle you across in the safety boat after you have brought your boat back to the club)

Charity – traditionally SWFYC have run this as a charity event, if you would like to make a donation at the end that’s great, but its not compulsory.

Providing the conditions are right – ie a reasonable weather and not blowing old boots or pouring with rain in which case it will be cancelled – a course will be suggested to make the best of the day.

High tide is going to be around 11.20am, so we could get on the water at 10.00am with a course or circuit that takes us past the clubs. We have the luxury of having very few cruisers in the river at this time of year, so there will be lots of room.

Safety Boat training

Both SWFYC and Up River will have safety boats in the water giving plenty of safety cover. Dennis will be in charge of our safety boat. Any of our more recent members who want to come along and have some safety boat training are very welcome – you are literally in the driving seat if you would like training on the day – let Dennis know well in advance.

If you are interested in taking part in this event as either Fun Sailor or Safety Boat trainee, please leave a comment under the latest Facebook posting for this event (or ask someone who is on Facebook to put your name and boat details on for you). Thanks Dennis.
