Regatta
Preparations for the Regatta on Sunday 21st September are in full swing. Calls have gone out to members on the Club WhatsApp asking for much needed volunteers. Even if you can just give two hours of your time to help with the fund-raising games or on a stall, that would be a great help and hugely appreciated.
It’s always best to have two people on each game or stall, so why not put your name forward with your partner or a friend. The Regatta is also a real opportunity to interact with the public and encourage families to join URYC.
Sailing
A great month for our Cruisers with a Rally to Shotley, then rounding off the month with a social sailing trip to the Burnham Carnival.
Dinghy Racing is exceptional, with our first Streaker Open Meeting, two evening series/fun sails, Lightning Nationals AND the start of the Autumn series.
It’s a packed sailing programme with something for everyone.
Cruiser Recovery Starts this month! Check out the dates and get your boat on the list.
The lists will be ‘on the board’ at the end of the forthcoming Launch and Recovery Work Party on Saturday 30 August.
Secure your lift out day and confirm another two dates you are available to help.
Thank you
Firstly, thanks for the work done by, too many members to mention here, delivering such a successful and enjoyable Up River Week. It was also great to see cadets doing so well in the racing results. Having 28 dinghies on the water during this week was truly outstanding.
My thanks to the many members who heeded the call to get the vegetation under control around your tenders and dinghies. It’s looking much better! However, we can’t rest on our laurels (or nettles and bushes for that matter). Please try give your space a ‘spruce up’ before the regatta.
Work Party
We have a work party on 20th September – the day before the Regatta – and we will be looking for a team to lift tenders to help mowing the ‘lanes’ between rows of tenders. There is also a tender audit that day, so PLEASE ensure your boat name is shown on your tender and you are only using your allocated space. We have had several new members this year and now there are very few spare spaces left.
New members
We would like to extend a belated welcome to the new members who have joined the club this season. Although the club is small, there is strong member participation in both dinghy and cruiser sailing activities. It’s great that the club continues to attract individuals interested in sailing and participating in on-water activities ….even the raft race.
Fair winds
