Due to the rise and fall of the tide along the rivers and coastline of Essex, access to sailing for anyone less than able bodied is very restricted.
At Up River Yacht Club the fairly steep slipway needed for boats to be launched on a tidal river, is a huge barrier for the disabled, especially as it can be wet and potentially slippery. Plainly, beyond the yacht club building that has an access ramp and a dedicated WC within the premises, sailing from Up River Yacht Club is not disability friendly.
This is why we are very happy to promote the Hanningfield Sailability Project (HSP) as an alternative venue for disabled people to enjoy sailing.
- Launch facilities specifically designed for disabled people
- Five specially designed boats
- Club House
- Superb reservoir sailing
